The Bible as a tumultuous love affair
Some read the Bible as a biography of God, others as a biography of Israel. It can also be read as the story of a relationship between the two.
The relationship is the plot.

Yhwh creates, regrets, floods, scatters, chooses one people, liberates them, and makes a covenant. What moves him isn't rivalry with other gods but how his people treat the downtrodden. The covenant constrains his anger, and the prophets later picture a breakup and a lasting marriage.
