Kingship 'descended from heaven'
The Sumerian King List, used for 2,000 years, begins when kingship came down from heaven. Its first king ruled 28,800 years. Nothing comes before kings.
The Bible pushed kings back to make room for a people.

Like Judges, the King List lines up rulers in succession who may have ruled simultaneously, to show a single kingdom. But the Bible adds what the King List couldn't: families, liberation, covenant, and leaders who governed long before kings.
