The tables have turned
Kings opens with Solomon hosting the Queen of Sheba at his table. It ends with his descendant Jehoiachin dining at the Babylonian king's table, released from prison.
Life goes on, but not as before.
Dig deeper
It's a hopeful ending: the Davidic line survives and is honored above other vassal kings. But the conditions for recovery are radically different. Instead of a throne, a seat at a foreign table, and a new existence under empire.
