Moses' mountain on Mesha's stone

Mesha says he captured Nebo from Israel, killing 7,000 men and devoting women to Chemosh. Nebo is where Moses viewed the Promised Land before dying.

Sacred geography was contested.

Since Moses' grave is hidden, the legend could support Israel's claim to the region. Some biblical texts place Nebo in Moab's hands.
