Khirbet Qeiyafa

This recently discovered site, about twenty miles from Jerusalem, shows an independent, short-lived polity. Some link it to Saul or David.

Many small states, not one kingdom.

More likely, it's evidence for one of many petty states in the region until the ninth century BCE.
